Private by design

Most online PDF editors upload your file to their servers. The Docnez PDF editor opens, edits and saves your PDF inside your browser, so contracts, invoices and personal documents stay on your device. Only when you choose Send for signature is the finished file uploaded, so it can be signed securely.

Free, and fair about it

  • No watermark on downloaded files
  • No limit on how many PDFs you edit or download
  • No card required, and no trial that runs out
  • Sending for e-signature is free too: 7 documents a month on the free plan

Need signatures as well? Docnez is free e-signature software: upload a PDF or Word file, add fields and send a link. Signers do not need an account. Making a flyer or menu? Try the free QR code generator.

PDF editor questions

Is the Docnez PDF editor free?

Yes. Editing, merging, splitting and downloading PDFs is free, with no watermark and no limit on how many files you edit. You need a free Docnez account; no card is required.

Why do I need an account?

A free account keeps the editor fair to run and lets you send the finished PDF for signature in one click. It takes about a minute: enter your name, email and a password, then confirm your email.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. Your PDFs are opened, edited and saved in your browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to Docnez unless you choose "Send for signature".

What can I change in a PDF?

Add text, notes, images, highlights, rectangles, ellipses and lines; cover content with white-out; fill in PDF form fields; and rotate, reorder, delete, extract, merge and split pages. Undo and redo work for every change.

Can I edit the existing text in a PDF?

You can cover existing text with white-out and type new text on top, which works well for most corrections. Re-flowing the original text inside the file is not supported.

Does editing count toward the free e-signature limit?

No. The free plan limit of 7 documents a month only applies when you send a document for signature. Editing and downloading PDFs never counts.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The editor works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers, including Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox.

How large can a PDF be?

Up to 100 MB per file, and you can open several files at once to merge them.
